Parklands Cottage services the Kempsey Shire, assisting the frail, older members of our community with social support as well as centre based day respite to people living with dementia.
Our building is a federation style cottage, which has a warm, home-like atmosphere with attractive gardens and is located in a quiet residential area surrounded by open parkland.
The aim of the service is to maintain and support independent living and social interaction.
Parklands Cottage Inc. is open five days each week - Monday to Friday between 8.00am and 3.30pm.
What happens at Parklands Cottage:
A diverse program is provided which is designed to meet individual needs and includes group and individual activities.
Group activities may include a variety of crafts, bowls, bingo, cards, quizzes, quoits, darts, gentle exercises, reminiscing, sing-a-longs, scrabble etc.
One to one activities may include pampering such as manicures and hand massages, reading and discussing newspaper articles, walks in the courtyard, gardening, beading, scrap booking etc.
Morning tea and lunch consisting of a main meal, sweets and tea, coffee or juice is provided. We cater for special dietary requirements.
Day outings are planned from time to time and entertainers visit Parklands regularly to entertain with singing, dancing and music.
Parklands Cottage employs five staff - the coordinator and assistant coordinator are responsible for the day-to-day running of the service and 3 day care assistants plan and implement the daily program.
A number of dedicated volunteers assist with the day-to-day provision of services to our clients. This involvement may include assisting with client activities, maintaining the gardens, assisting in the kitchen etc. Without volunteers our service would not be able to operate.
